Choosing to believe in myself, I took a chance and tried something new. Little did I know, this single step would bring many wonderful changes to my life. Now, I am using my success to give back to my community and help others realize their dreams.

My family came to New York from Jamaica when I was a young child. My mother and father worked very hard to provide a comfortable lifestyle for our family. One thing that stood out to me was that most of my family members had successful jobs and owned businesses and properties. This is a major accomplishment, and it made me feel very proud.

Being around this type of success inspired me to believe I can be successful too. I decided to go to school and became a Dental Assistant with the end goal of becoming a Dental Hygienist. I landed a great job in a private dental office in Manhattan. At the time, I loved my job very much, and I loved my doctors

and coworkers; they became my second family. I absolutely loved working with people and providing a service that made people happy. But as time went on, I realized I no longer had the desire to become a Hygienist. I honestly felt lost because I always thought that was my calling – I was wrong.

It wasn’t until I went to visit my aunt, who was the owner of her own real estate business, that I expressed to her my thoughts about making a change in my life. She suggested I try real estate. At first, I had a lot of doubts, not wanting to leave a paycheck for a

commission-based industry.

My aunt sensed my apprehension. She looked at me and said, “What do you have to be nervous about? I have been doing this since I came to America. Real estate is all I do. If I can do it, you can do it!”

When she said that, a bulb went off in my head and I thought to myself: What do I have to lose? The following week I signed up for my real estate course. In 2013, I officially received my REALTORS® license.

I continued to work as a full-time assistant and did real estate part time. Or so that is what I thought – I started to realize my REALTOR® career was 100% full-time. My real estate career began to take off, and the urge to be my own boss started to become more prevalent. In 2021, I became a full-time REALTOR®. Since then, I have continued to pour my heart and soul into my business, and I absolutely love it.

In many ways, I emulate the values I learned from my parents in my business. I take care of people and support them as we work together through the process while simultaneously running my business and exploring new opportunities to grow and reach more people.

In 2021, I made a big move to Middletown, Orange County, NY, where my husband and I bought our current home. My kids absolutely love it here, and I’m proud my career has enabled us to start this new chapter. When you find the right home and the right space for your family, it brings a sense of peace and belonging. Having experienced that firsthand, I have a deeper appreciation and understanding when helping my clients find their perfect fit.

With the success I have found in real estate, I want to help others in my community, where I see a lack of education and guidance around home buying and ownership. My goal is to create a foundation to provide those resources

to people. Another way I plan to give back to my community is by hosting informational seminars, educating everyone about their real estate opportunities.

My journey is a testament to the power of determination and the importance of pursuing your passions. There will always be a million reasons to say “no,” but when you find a reason to say “yes,” you know you have found something worth pursuing.

My favorite part of working in real estate is helping clients start the next chapter of their lives. Whether they are buying their first home or selling to move somewhere else, I enjoy being a part of this exciting journey. I use my personal and professional experiences to advise my clients of what to expect, what to look out for, what to do, and what not to do.

It has been eye-opening for me to realize that many people don’t know what their options are. They may think they will never be able to buy a home, but after I talk with them, they learn it is more than possible. Sometimes having an expert in the field that understands every step of the process can make all the difference. I communicate well with my clients, explain everything thoroughly, and put them in touch with the right professionals, ensuring they are guided from beginning to end. Even after the transaction is over, I will continue offering my support and professional guidance as your REALTOR® for life.

Sincerely,

Kerry-Ann Lawson
